TEXT TO BE READ FOR THE BLIND – ATTIC AND JOURNALISM

Course Overview:

Cunqueiro’s legendary faiado (attic), with its windows overlooking the family orchard and providing a view of his beloved Silva forest, is the context for his creations, where some of his most memorable works saw the light.

Here the muses assisted in the birth of Merlín e familia, As crónicas do Sochantre, Si o vello Sinbad or Escola de menciñeiros, to mention only a few examples. From here there also emerged hundreds of journalism articles during the years of Álvaro Cunqueiro’s rebirth and he recovered his place in the literature and journalism of his age.

Cunqueiro’s journalism is, inevitably, also part of his literature. Through his countless articles, which are an original blend of essay, travel chronicle, or art and literary critique, we have been able to learn about the opinions, friendships, readings and obsessions of the artist.

A large part of the profile we know today of don Álvaro consists of those traces and strokes extracted from his journalism works where, without the glazes and filters typical of his other literary production, it reveals to us a large part of his being.
